Visits to the Cattery

Tretap Cattery is a closed cattery dedicated to the Norwegian Forest Cat breed. Our name originated from the fact that we treasure our cats and from the word tapestry, which was also the name of my last Himalayan cat that passed away prior to us becoming involved with the Wegie. A tapestry was traditionally a colorful work of art worked on by the entire family. As a family we are striving to maintain the beautiful colorful and true nature of the "Wegie". So, our cats are our Treasured Tapestry, Tretap Norwegian Forest Cats.

We live in a very rural  area in the Flint Hills in Kansas. We have wide open spaces and beautiful area to live. Our cats live with us, a family of 5,  in our home. We do have a separate area for our ladies and gentlemen to spend some time in and they do enjoy time out and in our home. They love to enjoy the sun, and we are planning on having a larger area enclosed for a play yard this summer. We work closely with our vet to ensure the health and well being of our cats.

All queens are brought into our home when they are expecting. We are a non smoking household and we strive to give an optimal place for kittens to grow to happy and health bundles of loving fluff! We play and love on all our kittens and they have toys that are theirs and they are constantly finding the other toys that their playmates have hidden either behind the TV or under the table!  Our special loving underfoot care of our kittens is reflected in each and everyone of them being unique and loving.

Our kittens have become in high demand and we have found it necessary to become a closed cattery. We realized with having people coming in and out we were risking the health of our family, our cat family and human family. In this time we live in, it is unfortunate, but there exists an increasing number of individuals who have bad intentions and by allowing visitation and having an open cattery, we were risking not only the health, but the safety of our family and our cats. Crime in the home due to internet access is on the rise, we do try to screen kitten candidates, but we have to be wary of the all to real threat of people with other intentions. We have learned of anything from kitten thieves to murderers, as in the case of Bobbi Jo Stinnett, and this is just one example of what has been transpiring due to internet connections

We regret the inconvenience this may cause, as we know many people wish to have their "kitten choose" them. However all our kittens are raised to have wonderful personalities as we breed for type and temperament first, then size and coloring, so your baby will bring you as much joy as they have brought previous adoptee's of our furry babies.

We thank you for considering kitten from TreTap Norwegian Forest Cats.

A closed cattery means we do not allow our females out to breed or our males to stud. Our females are bred on the males "territory", we find this is less stress on all our cats. When a new stud or female is purchased, they are quarantined and checked before allowed in with the other cats. This protects our cats from spread of disease.
